Promo Poster showing The Quartermaster

The Quartermaster is a playable commander in Tooth and Tail. Her units currently carry the colour green.

Leader of the faction which represents Authoritarianism, the Quartermaster leads the K.S.R., a secret police tasked with keeping peace in the nation. The K.S.R. became involved in the fighting to quell the Revolution, but now fights to bring peace to the nation, no matter what the cost. Their authoritarian outlook upon how a nation should be run becomes evermore apparent as the story progresses, with that said, however, the K.S.R. champion peace and order above all else. The Quartermaster often uses Military style units in combat; the gas mask wearing AFB, the Sergeant Wolf, The medics, barbed wire, artillery cannons, and the fighter falcons. The Quartermaster lives by a number of rules that she can be seen quoting during missions, if these are her own rules or taken from somewhere else is unknown. Her network of spies within other factions and her research into new military technology is prevalent during her campaign though if she began utilizing these assets before the revolution is uncertain. While an intimidating figure the Quartermaster seems to care about helping the people survive, though she shows disdain for the Commonfolk due to their stealing of supplies.

Trivia[ | ]

  • Quartermaster used to be named Hopper, back when Hopper was named "Marrow". For unknown reasons, the developers changed the Commonfolk commander's name to Hopper and Quartermaster completely lost her name. There is no hint to what it could've been as all characters refer to her as "Quartermaster, ma'am!" or just talks to her directly.
  • Incidently, a Quartermaster is not the military commander, but rather the personnel manager. It would be Seargent Verkov who should be leading the troops while Quartermaster manages the rations, funding, and does the paperwork. However, it's possible the war and chaos has lead her to having to take all roles as leader of the army and personnel manager. The fact that her discipline push is not displayed strongly on her own soldiers and her constant lament of having to go to battle reinforces this not being her job. She also constantly requests information from her subordinates and peers to make decisions and is left in the dark on plans, even verbally being confused or disagreeing with the plan but lamenting there's no other option. (e.g. she genuinely didn't know what the Mining Sugar was for, nor about the Wing Demon bomb raid despite being the highest in command, and she had no idea why her soldiers were in formation getting a breifing from Verkov despite Verkov being her subordinate).
  • It is joked at by Hopper that The Quartermaster removed her own eye because she was hungry, though it is never stated what truly happened to it.
    • According to the blog, the only reason the developers gave her an eye patch is because they wanted her to appear more villainous and evil. However, in attempt to balance the morality of the characters, they rolled back the idea of having her personality reflect that, but kept the evil dictator look.
    • Similarly, the eye patch always facing the viewer reflects how the developers wanted her to appear cold and foreboding. Though she has a very expressive defeat expression.
    • Both Hopper and Quartermaster smile when they win. The males stand proudly with a stern glare.
  • The Quartermaster is shown as a fairly compassionate person whose disdain for the other factions comes mostly from their willingness to harm other creatures
    • This compassion is further explored when she argues that the war is not good for any side, and simply wants to fight so that it may be ended quicker
      • Ironically, this makes Quartermaster the most "good" of the 4 commanders. As she's the only one actively trying to stop the war. She only helps Archimedes because all she knows is Bellafide is staging a coup and she genuinely feels Archimedes is innocent, until she doesn't...then she realizes she can't trust anyone except the late Tsarina. Hopper may have a good heart, but she is willing to steal and revolt at the slightest encouragement.
    • According to the blog, Quartermaster was initially designed to be a neutral person who just wanted order and justice, but was made to be more totalitarian so the Civilized wouldn't be the sole "villain organization". Her design reflects this change as she formerly was an "attractive, strong female" with a private eye motif, but was changed to appear more like a right leaning military commander. This includes her eye patch which was only added to make her appear more "evil". However despite pushing her towards being more "evil", the final game reverted her back to her "stoic compassion" and value for life as her primary motivation.
  • The Quartermaster's cape is show being on both her left and right arm in game, as her sprite will be show with it regardless of which arm is facing the player
    • It sounds like Quartermaster is wearing boots when she walks on any terrain and her sprite makes it appear that she's wearing boots, but like all other characters, she's barefoot.
  • The Quartermaster seems to have a set of rules which she reminds the player of as the game progresses. How many rules or who wrote them is unknown; an example is rule Rule #8 "Study failures as often as successes"
  • The Quartermaster is voiced by Elspeth Eastman
  • Many mistake Quartermaster for being male because the main artwork looks like a stereotypical British Corporal, but the minute they hear her voice during her campaign, "Oh she's a GIRL?" Always has been.
    • A little hard to tell but she appears to have developed breasts under her uniform. The blog stated she was meant to be "attractive" but in a respectful way due to her disciplined nature. They just happed to pull it off by giving her a healthy anthropomorphic body, despite the beastification of their anatomy. As a note: Hopper's clothes are too loose to tell what her physique looks like, but many describe her as sickly and thin.
